Orani, a coastal town in Bataan province known for world-class shrimps, crabs and other seafoods may soon become a tourist destination.

Sen. Cynthia A. Villar, chair of Senate committee on agriculture and food, agrarian reform, environment and natural resources made the remark in her speech during the groundbreaking for P180.3 million Orani Fish Landing and Trading Facility in Pantalan Bago, last April 20.

The construction of said facility which is expected to be completed in 422 days will be financed by the World Bank through the Philippine Rural Development Program of the Department of Agriculture.

Villar who frequently visits the family of her husband, former senator Manuel Villar in Barangay Pacar, said it may be a good idea to declare Orani as a tourist destination in this part of Central Luzon for the town’s famous seafoods.

She said about 10 tons of “sugpo” are produced daily by Orani.

Orani Vice Mayor Emmanuel Roman confirms that even before, fish traders from Navotas, Bulacan, Pampanga, and Zambales come to this town for fish products.

“We want to get back to the days when Orani used to attract fish traders from other provinces because the facility is going to cater to all consumers,” Roman said.

Bataan Vice Gov. Cris Garcia for her part said Orani should be the seafood capital of the country considering that this municipality has become the major source of fresh and good quality “sugpo” and “alimango”.
